Product Overview
High Image Resolution

The NovaRay scanner provides:
• High quality, dual-channel imaging down to 4
micron resolution.
• User-optimized scanning protocol enables selection
from 4 resolution settings of 4, 5, 10 and 20 microns.
• Ability to perform cell based reporter assays,
viral plaque assays and cell arrays.
• Ability to QC substrates.
• Ability to scan plates at high resolution opens
a world of opportunity in studying proteins and gene
expression in cells.
• User-control over the scanning area and acquisition
time for sub-image scans. This ensures a more convenient
process for the user to take a series of scans and enables
closer investigation of specific sub-image features.
High Sensitivity
The NovaRay scanner utilizes a proprietary light management
design that enables the system to acquire high quality
images. This results in:
• Ability to study low-expressed genes.
• Minimal photo-bleaching that enables for accurate
repeat measurements.
• High integrity of ratio-metric intensity data.

User-optimized Fluorescent Dye Flexibility
The NovaRay scanner utilizes separate filter wheels,
each with up to 8 filters, for both excitation and emission
wavelengths.
• Optimized with standard filter sets for Cy3
and Cy5 dyes that minimizes bleed-through and crosstalk
between these common dyes.
• Cost-efficient evaluation of new fluorescent
molecule choices, enabling adoption of less expensive
and more stable dyes.
• Multi-channel scanning of up to eight different
dyes in one experiment allows for development of novel
multiplexed assays.
• Application convergence on a single scanner
can be achieved with the right choices in filter selection.
The NovaRay scanner can accomplish this because it is
compatible across the range of UV, visible light, and
NIR dyes. This reduces the need for researchers to add
new laser excitation sources or reconfigure their instrument
between experiments.
• As with excitation, the eight-position emission
filter wheel of the NovaRay scanner enables researchers
to select from hundreds of dye choices with optimized
emission filters. For ordering information on alternative
emission filters, please contact Alpha Innotech.

Sample Format Versatility
• Microplate scanning capability allows for quick
and cost effective screening of many samples, resulting
in increased throughput and data accuracy when using
automated fluid handlers.

• Designed to handle single slide acquisitions
as well as a batch of up to 4 microscope slides.
• Able to accept wet or dry samples, including
tissue samples (see Application Note).
• Speeds up research process through usage of
high throughput assays such as array-of-arrays and high-throughput
screening.
• Enables development of novel assay platforms
with non-standard substrates.
Well-centric scanning
• Fast scan times
• Ability to mask unwanted inter-well regions
• Enables single-cell detection
• Able to scan live cells (in media) allows for
time course studies
